Why CI Wear is Different:

Unlike standard compression shirts, rash guards, or athletic apparel, CI Wear™ was designed from the ground up for cochlear implant users. Its patented retention system integrates secure processor pockets, cable management, and athletic performance features into one garment, helping reduce the risk of dropped processors while keeping you comfortable on land and in the water.

CI Wear vs. Armbands or Clipping Your Processor to a Shirt

Many cochlear implant users rely on armbands, clips, or improvised solutions to keep their processors secure during physical activity. While these accessories can provide basic retention, they are typically designed as add-ons rather than integrated apparel.

CI Wear™ takes a different approach. Instead of attaching a retention device to your clothing, the retention system is built directly into the shirt.

CI Wear: Integrated Protection

CI Wear™ is designed as performance apparel with built-in features to help secure compatible cochlear implant processors during movement. Sleeve pockets, internal retention bands, and concealed cord routing work together to help keep equipment organized and reduce the chance of cords catching during activity.

Because these features are integrated into the garment, there's no need to remember or attach a separate accessory before every workout, swim, or outdoor adventure.

Armbands

Armbands can be a helpful way to secure a cochlear implant processor, particularly for users who prefer an external retention accessory. Because they are worn around the upper arm, however, repeated muscle flexion during activities such as swimming, running, weight training, or racquet sports may cause some armbands to loosen or migrate down the arm over time. This can require periodic readjustment, creating distractions and reducing comfort during exercise. Since armbands are separate from your clothing, they also typically do not provide integrated cord routing or cable management. CI Wear™ addresses these challenges by incorporating processor retention and cord management directly into the garment, eliminating the need for an additional accessory while helping keep compatible devices secure throughout your activity.

Clipping a Processor to Your Shirt

Clipping a Processor to a Shirt is a simple and low-cost solution that many cochlear implant users choose for everyday activities. However, standard shirts are not designed with dedicated retention features or integrated cord management. As a result, sound cords may remain exposed and can be more susceptible to snagging on clothing, exercise equipment, backpacks, or other objects.

Because the processor or waterproof case is attached to the outside of the garment, it may also be more exposed to external forces during physical activity. Depending on the environment, contact with ocean waves, pool play, teammates, exercise equipment, or other obstacles may increase the likelihood of the processor being bumped, pulled, or accidentally dislodged from the shirt. If this happens, users may need to stop their activity to retrieve and reattach the device.

CI Wear™ takes a different approach by positioning compatible processors inside integrated sleeve pockets with an internal retention system and concealed cord routing. By keeping the device closer to the body and protected within the garment, CI Wear™ is designed to help reduce exposure to accidental bumps, snags, and other everyday hazards while supporting an active lifestyle.

Which Option Is Best?

The best solution depends on your activity level and personal preference.

  • If you occasionally need basic retention, an armband or clip may meet your needs.

  • If you're regularly swimming, running, cycling, hiking, skiing, playing sports, or exercising, clothing designed specifically for cochlear implant users may provide a more integrated way to help keep compatible processors secure and cords organized.

CI Wear™ was developed for active cochlear implant users who wanted more than an accessory, they wanted athletic apparel purpose-built around their hearing technology.
